GBF president confident in Ghana's top seven rated boxers

Mr. George Lamptey, president of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), has expressed confidence in the federation's top seven rated boxers, saying they are medal prospects for the nation.

He said, the top seven boxers were the most experienced, talented and skillful amateur boxers, who were capable of putting Ghana back on the international scene, with medals.

Mr. Lamptey, appealed to the government and companies to support the boxers, who are currently undergoing non residential camping, ahead of international games.

"These boxers have been funding their training each day, from their various homes to the Accra Sports Stadium each day.

"This is not good enough and the government must support them," he added.

He noted that, many countries were now taking sports serious and Ghana was always a target because of the past laurels, hence present boxers in the Black Bombers team have to give off their best to succeed.

According to Mr. Lamptey, Ghana has a very good team and the only thing needed was preparations in terms of friendly matches to give the boxers the exposure on the international scene.

The top seven rated boxers are; Suleimana Tetteh (52kg), Umar Abdul Wahab (60kg), Lartey Jessie Lartey (64kg), Musa Lawson Rahman (75kg), Mahammed Azumah (69kg), Ampiah Akimos Annang (49kg) and Yaw Addo (56kg).
