The Tripartite Committee, comprising organized Labour, Employers and the Government, has agreed on a new daily minimum wage of GH3.00 the previous daily minimum wage of GH3.11.
The previous daily minimum wage of GH2.655, was implemented in April 2009. Mr. Abraham Coomson, a member of the negotiating team, told newsmen that Labour had penciled in a minimum of GH4 but had to concede some grounds during the negotiations.
Discussions have been ongoing since last year. The committee also agreed on a new income tax-free threshold of GH240 per annum to GH1,800 per annum to reduce the burden on the economys formal sector workers.
The new threshold means workers who earn less than GH1,800 per annum are exempt from tax. The GH240 threshold was fixed in 2006.
