Odawna Fire Outbreak: 18-Year-Old Mother Besiege Firemen To Rescue Her Baby

An 18-year-old mother on Wednesday night besieged the Ghana Fire Service to help rescue her baby whom she believed was trapped in the fire at the Odawna market.

The devastated mother who couldn’t control her emotions cried out to police to save her child but said they didn’t pay any attention to her.

According to her, she was sacked from home when her parents noticed she was pregnant, and had to struggle on the streets of Accra for her survival.

“If something should happen to my child, I do not know what will happen to me, the baby is trapped in there and the police are there talking ‘rubbishfully’” she cried.

Narrating how the baby got trapped, she said the baby was playing around with other kids in the market when she decided to go collect money from her husband only to return to flames of fire in the market.

According to her, the cause of the fire is not known but she suspects some Nigerians who have come to live among them in the market.

“The only thing I heard was “boom” and the next thing was flames in the air, if I should lose this child I do not know what will happen to me,” she said.
