"We are behind coach Kwasi Appiah" - GFA

The Normalization Committee (NC) for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has said, the performance clause inserted in coach Kwesi Appiah's contract extension, is not aimed at putting pressure on him, but to motivate him to give out his best, as he prepares, the senior national team for the upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

According to the GFA, coach Appiah has their support as the team gears up to conquer the rest of Africa and possibly win gold at this year's AFCON, which has eluded the country over 32 years.

"Contrary to media reports, coach Kwesi Appiah enjoys the total support of the Normalization Committee, as he gets ready to begin preparations for the next Afcon in Egypt," a statement from the GFA said.

"Performance clauses worldwide are acceptable in contracts, hence the introduction of the same in coach Kwasi Appiah’s contract.

"While this is an international practice, the Normalization Committee believes in Coach Appiah’s ability to lead Ghana’s campaign to win AFCON 2019, a goal of President Akufo Addo.

"The coach would be given every support possible, to enable him to function at the optimum, as Ghana seeks to win the AFCON for the first time in over three decades.

"The GFA has no interest in putting pressure on coach Appiah, but would rather provide the necessary mechanism to facilitate his role in achieving the nation’s quest," it said.

The NC, which has given the former Black Stars stalwart, a contract extension till the continental showpiece ends, called on Ghanaians to throw their support behind the coach and the Black Stars.

"We wish to call on Ghanaians to throw every support spiritually and physically behind Coach Appiah and the team, to achieve the common goal of winning the trophy in Egypt".
