The First Vice Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party, Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim, has chastised the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, for supposedly doing little about the kidnapping of three girls in Takoradi.
According to her, the sector minister has not shown interest in a matter in which her influence can be brought to bear in getting the police to bring the kidnappers to book.
Speaking on Citi TV’s Breakfast Daily, Hajia Hamdatu Ibrahim said the Gender Minister is sleeping on the job.
“I am going to sound controversial on this issue; and I don’t care what people would read into it. The Gender Minister is sleeping on her job. Otiko Afisa Djaba would have been there with the police creating awareness, but here we have a case where we have not heard the voice of the Gender Minister. This should be a wake-up call for the minister, because some of us are not very happy,” she said.
When she was reminded that the Minister had spoken about the matter on Wednesday, she said that response even came rather too late.
On Wednesday, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, called on the family of the victims to stay calm, as the Police works to rescue the girls.
“Already, the families of the kidnapped girls are agitated. All we are praying for is that we get our girls back… As at now, we do not know what is happening to them. I pray they will not be molested. They [families] have started agitating but I asked them to calm down…”
The Western Regional Police Commander, DCOP Redeemer Dedjoe, has said his office has picked up some new leads that could aid their investigations to find the three girls who were abducted in Takoradi.
At a press conference on Wednesday, DCOP Dedjoe, assured that the new leads picked up will help their rescue efforts.
“We have some information coming in and we are trying to work on it to see how best we can handle the case. Sometimes it is difficult to put these leads in the public domain because as you are aware, the criminals are also listening to whatever we are doing so if you talk too much, it gives them that confidence to build more fence around themselves. As a result of that, I will appeal that we keep some of these things until we are fortunate to come out with what we are actually looking for.”
Citi News reported the disappearance of the girls believed to have been kidnapped by one Nigerian, Samuel Udoetuk Wills.
Three teenagers, Ruth Love Quayson, Pricilla Blessing Bentum and Priscilla Koranchie have gone missing for more than a month now, with the police doing very little to trace the girls.
The disappearance of the first victim was reported in August 2018, and the two others took place in December.
Samuel Udoetuk Wills was arrested but broke jail and escaped, and was later rearrested at Nkroful near Takoradi.
