Seize Nam 1’s Foreign Assets Too – Clinton

Interpol Ghana has been urged to consider confiscating foreign assets of Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of troubled gold dealership firm, Menzgold.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), has secured a court order confirming the freezing of assets of Menzgold and other related businesses belonging to NAM 1, as he is popularly called.

EOCO has therefore advised his family members, workers and associates in possession of such properties to submit them in their own interest.

Reacting to this, Amanda Clinton lawyer for some of the aggrieved customers of Menzgold said seizing just Nam 1’s assets in Ghana will not be enough.

According to her, it will be ideal if there will be a “confirmation from Interpol Ghana that they have sent out notification globally and that there is a coordinative attempt for international assets to be seized. It will really be great if Interpol Ghana can confirm that notices have been sent out internationally…"

Amanda who was speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness news, Tuesday, also welcomed EOCO's action saying it is an indication that something is being done by government to give the customers justice.

We very much welcome this decision from EOCO…” she said.
