Three out of the nine landing beach committees operating within the Shama District in the Western Region have garnered a profit of GHC 120, 000 covering their operations in the last two years.

At a public accountability forum organised by the Assembly to audit their operations, it was realised that management committees of the three were doing well.

However, six landing beach committees were yet to take their turn before the panel to render account.

Mr Augustin Kwame Tawiah, the Secretary to the Apo Landing Beach Committee, said a total of GHC 61,018 from 55 consignments of pre-mix fuel were collected and this generated an interest of GH 818 after depositing the money in the bank.

The Secretary said the Committee had to rent a fuel bottle at a cost of GHC 3,000 whiles the committee contributed GHC 1000 on the accountability forum.

The Committee also used GHC 1000 to repair one of their fuel tank receiving fuel from the Goil oil company.

Mr Tawiah said they rented a new fuel bottle at a cost of GHC 1,100 and contributed GHC 1,400 to the community library.

The Apo Committee contributed to the building of community toilet and washrooms which amounted to GHC 1,500.

All their expenses summed up to GHC 11, 400 with a balance of GHC 49, 918 and sum of GHC 46, 118 as their available fund.

At the Castle View Landing Beach Committee, the Secretary, Mr Emmanuel Nyame Quayson said the Committee received 51 consignments and per each consignment sold, GHC 1,100 was taken as community share of proceeds which gave them a total of GH 56,100.

He said the amount generated an interest of GHC 885.21 and so in total they had GHC 56, 985.21.

On expenditure, he said, the Committee was financing a toilet project and has so far spent GHC 1500 whiles GHC 1,100 has been spent on a library project.

The Committee contributed GHC 100 for street bulbs to light up the area and rented a fuel tank and pump at a cost GHC 10, 200 and paid GHC 1000 for the organization of the accountability programme.

He said the total commitment summed up to GHC 13,300 and the available fund is GHC 42,185.21.

At the Bentsir Landing Beach, the Secretary, Mr Robert Akownu said since February 2017 the Committee received 42 consignments and realized an amount of GHC 46,200 which generated an interest of GHC 512, making the total of GHC 46,714.

Mr Akownu said deducting an expenditure of GHC 12,470 from the GHC 4671 returns left the Committee with GHC 34,242 in their account.

Mr. Joseph Amoah, the District Chief Executive, who was impressed by the management said government was bent on improving upon the fishing industry by subsidizing pre-mixed fuel for the fishermen in the country.

He said the government is putting in place measures to check the movement of trucks and consignments received to avoid diversion and mismanagement of the fuel.
