Akufo-Addo Charges Police To Investigate "Unfortunate & Regrettable" By-election Violence

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has condemned the violent attacks on some electorates during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

According to the President, his government regrets the shooting incident and brutality that took place during the elections and so is assuring Ghanaians that the Police are conducting an inquiry into the incident to bring the perpetrators to book.

"The isolated incident of violence, which occurred in the early stages of the election, was unfortunate and regrettable, and I condemn it in no uncertain terms. A by-election should be a peaceful and happy event, no matter how competitive," he said in a Facebook post.

"The Police is committed to conducting a rapid inquiry into the matter, and I expect all persons who are found culpable, at the end of the process, to face the full rigours of the law", he stressed in a Facebook post on Friday, February 1, 2019.

President Akufo-Addo also commended the Electoral Commission for the "professionalism it displayed in conducting a free, fair, transparent and credible election, despite the isolated challenge it faced".
