FLASHBACK: Mahama’s Statement After Talensi By-Election

In a tweet posted on 8th July, 2015, former President Mahama wrote on his handle :“Congrats BT Baba. Violence in Talensi unacceptable.Security services must take lessons learned to ensure peaceful 2016 poll. #ChangingLives

It would be recalled that in 2015, fear gripped some communities in Talensi as counting of ballots begun in a by-election which featured sporadic violence with reports of gun shots, machetes and sticks.

The election, was won by the NDC’s Benson Tongo Baba, and shortly after it was announced, former President Mahama sent a tweet congratulating him.

In a related development as at that time,the New Patriotic Party expressed shock at the sight of gun-wielding Azoka Boys, a fanatic group linked to the NDC.

Former General Secretary of the the New Patriotic Party is on record to have told the media that he was surpised how they got the guns. He made this pronoucement after one NPP official was hospitalized at the Bolgatanga Government Hospital following a gunshot wound he sustained on the thigh.
