Ghana "Not A Jungle State' Comment: "Brave" Prof Martey Just Trying To Redeem His Name - Asiedu Nketia

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congresss (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia says the open condemnation by the former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey on the brutality in the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election shows he is "brave".

A former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev Prof Emmanuel Martey, has described as “cruel” and “monstrous” the violence that occurred near the La-Bawaleshie electoral area during last Thursday's Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Wading into the unfortunate incident, Rev. Prof. Martey was of the view that the violence and attacks have ridiculed the 'democratic credentials' the country is noted for.

In a statement he said: "I am still shocked at the presence of masked heavily-built men under the guise of National Security at some polling stations. The participation of these men at the by-election was unnecessary and no amount of security explanation can justify such a cruel and monstrous display of security.

Are we ridiculing the rule of law in this Country? How could Members of Parliament—also leaders of this Country—be assaulted for no crime committed and guns shot in private house on an election day to disrupt voting at the La Bawaleshie Presbyterian Polling Station near the house where the guns were fired? When good people keep quiet, evil people take over.

Enough is enough! We are not in a jungle state".

Commenting on Rev. Prof. Martey’s remarks on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Asiedu Nketia said the former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana is trying to redeem his image.

I will say that Prof. Martey is brave; he is trying to redeem his name. He has been attacking former President Mahama; calling for the wise in the country in the person of Nana Akufo-Addo to come and take over the country and if he is now criticizing the supposed wise person, that his behaviour is worse than that of Mahama, then I think he deserves an applause for demonstrating that it is not as if he hates Mahama but he was rather criticizing his wrongdoings then; he has done well condemning the incidence in the by-election,” he stated.
