The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has congratulated Richard Oblitey Commey for winning the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight title over the weekend.
Commey recorded a second round knockout over Russian Isa Chaniev to win the long awaited title.
“We have over the years monitored your efforts in becoming a world champion in your division and we are not surprised at this historic feat.
“Your victory has taught us to be relentless in our efforts to achieve a goal. Your defeat to Robert Easter Jr, for the same title never discouraged you, but rather pushed you to work harder.
“It is obvious that your years of dedication, commitment and hard work has finally paid off , as you have now joined the league of boxing greats. ” a statement from the secretariat said.
According to the statement, the recent victory is only the beginning of long journey to fame as the boxer would have to deal with better and stronger opponents in future, if he has to remain a world champion for years to come.
“You have now initiated yourself into the elite class of boxers in the world and you would require a higher sense of discipline to survive in this competitive class.
“The slightest loss of concentration would see you crumble. We therefore urge you to remain focused for the tasks ahead are huge,” the statement concluded.
