"Bloody Widow?" No; Lydia Seyram Is Rather A "Bloody MP" - Brogya Genfi

A former Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ernest Brogya Genfi has condemned the tag by Minority in Parliament on the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

The Minority on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 staged a walk-out of Parliament waving placards with the inscription "bloody widow" during the swearing in of the MP-elect of the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

According to them, she is a product of violence and illegality, therefore they cannot dignify her swearing in with their presence.

They have vowed to boycott any Parliamentary proceedings that involve Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini described her as a "product of a bloody protest; it is never an assault. We described the outcome of the process and she is a major beneficiary of the ‘bloody process’. We are not insulting her, we are just describing her status in our opinion. Things take their colour from their surroundings. The process which led to her victory was bloody; her status is a widow but what happened at Ayawaso was bloody, so we combined the two ‘bloody widow".

The Minority remains adamant as they believe their description perfectly befits the Ayawaso West Wuogon MP.

But Brogya Genfi has expressed dissenting views about the description given to the widow by his party leadership and members.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", he stressed that he will never "call her a bloody widow…I disagree with that description but she is a bloody MP".

He, however, supported the Minority on their position to boycott Parliamentary proceedings whenever Madam Seyram Alhassan takes the floor to address the House.
