Former Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Allotey Jacobs has called on State security institutions in the country to wake up.
Speaking on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Allotey Jacobs bemoaned the actions by some youth at Salaga in the Northern Region who set the New Patriotic Party (NPP) office ablaze and destroyed other properties after President Akufo-Addo named Damongo as their capital city.
The hotheaded youth brought the party offices down in flames and angrily pulled down billboards with images of the President in protest against their preferred town not been named as regional capital.
According to the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yussif Tanko, the youth also threatened to set fire to the residence of the East Gonja District Chief Executive and the District Assembly Office.
Damongo is a town and the capital of West Gonja district, a district in the Savannah Region of northern Ghana.
Allotey Jacobs lambasted the security agencies for not being proactive by picking intelligence on the incident and averting the ill intent of the youth.
He asked the security agencies to recruit more experienced people if they are in short of numbers to help swoop down on these aggressive people.
“Gov’t should have anticipated this for a long time that no matter what people will never be satisfied. There’s nothing that will appeal to everybody. As the thing becomes successful, somebody is unhappy. Somebody would like to have it but since he/she can’t get it, the person will have to humiliate you. I mean it’s human nature…but…our security should wake up. There is the need to recruit more people, more experienced people into the Service,” he said.
