The Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has said the Ministry is prioritizing the completion of the Community Day Senior High School Projects on a need basis subject to availability of funds.

According to him, contracts which have not started at all would be cancelled and budgeted for later.

The minister made this known in Parliament today whilst responding to a question by Hon Albert Akuka, MP for Garu.

Hon Albert Akuka wanted to know measures being taken by the Ministry to ensure timely completion of the Community Senior High Schools which are yet to be completed .

The minister said much of the funds secured by the GETFund which will be used to pay for Interim Payment Certificates for the projects are currently lodged at the GETFund secretariat.

According to the minister, the ministry together with the GETFund secretariat have assessed the status of all Community Day Senior High School Projects and have revealed that some of the projects are still in progress whilst some have also been abandoned with others projects yet to commence .

President Mahama  in 2012 promised to construct 200 Community Senior High Schools in order to improve access to education by 2016 but he had commission 10 of the schools with 123 others in different stages of completion.

But minister for education has said that only forty-six out of the 200 planned Community Day Senior High Schools project initiated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government has been completed.

He said even with the 46 completed ones, not all of them are in use.

Former President Mahama in the NDC Manifesto for Election 2012 promised to build 200 of the day schools between 2013 and 2016 with the intention to build at least 50 each year within the four year period.
