The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery; National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah and Minister of State in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, appeared before the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry set to investigate the violence that marred the by-election in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

All three witnesses, per various briefings they have had, gave their own version of what happened during the by-election which led to about 16 members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) sustaining various degree of injuries.

Assessing the testimonies of the three security heads, a security analyst, Adam Bonaa observed that the witnesses contradicted each other when they appeared before the Commission with their inconsistent accounts.

This, he says, is quite worrying.

Speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News, he said: “ . . a lot of contradictions showed especially among the two National Security officials who appeared before the Commission . . . it tells me that one of their core mandate which has to do with coordination, they probably did not coordinate with each other; talk among themselves even before coming to give their testimonies."

According to him, it was clear that the two were exhibiting ‘each one for himself’ attitude since they all had different stories to tell.

"You did hear the Minister for National Security say the vehicle belonged to the police, meanwhile, from the word go, the police have come to say the 'vehicles don’t belong to us', and the Minister of Interior came to confirm the fact that the vehicles did not belong to the police. And so for me, the National Security Minister (Kan-Dapaah) and now we know Bryan Acheampong is supposed to be his deputy, they probably didn’t talk to each other....From what the Kan Dapaah said, Bryan doesn’t take instructions from him. How can this be if this person is supposed to be your deputy? Somehow, even if it is 10 percent he doesn’t take 10 percent of his instructions from the boss. It means that there is a serious problem especially when you are supposed to be in charge of national security,” he added.
