Sefwi-Wiawso Is Capital of New Western North Region

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced Sefwi-Wiawso as the capital of the newly created Western North Region

He disclosed this Friday at the Jubilee House in Accra, at a ceremony to present Constitutional Instruments (CI 117) to give effect to the creation of new regions.

Wiawso is a small town and is the capital of Sefwi-Wiawso district, a district in the Western Region of Ghana.

The president however allocated a seed money for the new region for developmental projects.

He named Hon. Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Western Regional Minister as caretaker Minister for the region until a substantive one is appointed.

Presentation of CI's On New Regions

According to the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, “delegations comprising chiefs and people of the new regions have been invited to the Jubilee House in Accra for the official ceremonies.”

The schedule for presentation was as follows:

Tuesday, 12 February 2019 – North East with Nalerigu as capital
                                           Savannah Region with Damongo as capital

Wednesday 13 February 2019 – Bono East with Techiman announced as capital 
                                              Ahafo with Goaso as capital.

Friday, 15 February 2019 –      Western North with Sefwi Wiawso as capital
                                             Oti Region, yet to be named.

The presentation of the CI follows the December 27, 2018 referendum that massively approved the creation of the regions.
