The Minister of Interior, Ambrose Dery; National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah and Minister of State in charge of National Security, Bryan Acheampong today appeared before the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry set to investigate the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence.

The Commission of Inquiry chaired by Justice Emile Short is tasked by the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to probe into the by-election violence, find the perpetrators and also give recommendations on their findings.

The three Security Heads are the first set of people to appear before the Commission but already the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have chosen to boycott the Commission.

A statement by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu indicated that the NDC doesn't have confidence in the Commission to do an objective work.

“The Minority in Parliament wishes to serve notice that we would not relent in pursuing the series of democratic actions we had earlier announced until such a time that we are convinced that there is a genuine effort to hold the cowardly masked perpetrators accountable for their crimes . . . Sadly, since that meeting with the Ghana Police Service, not only has there been no further communication with us, more worryingly, there has not been a single arrest of the perpetrators despite the existence of abundant information including numerous pictures and videos which are exceedingly useful to investigators in every jurisdiction,” portion of the statement read.

However, speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, former Deputy Power Minister and Member of Parliament for Yapei/Kusawgu, John Jinapor has asked the NDC and the entire nation to repose some confidence in the Commission.

According to him, it is the responsibility of the Commission to ascertain the veracity of the accounts which were given by some members of the NDC, for which they boycotted the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

“Let’s allow them to do their job. I just hope that, despite all the reservations, they will do a good job,” he stated.
