Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) is a New Development Approach designed to help accelerate the eradication of poverty and inequalities which have manifested in the country for decades.

Under IPEP, each of the 275 constituencies in the country has an allocation of US$1 million this year to undertake infrastructural investment and development.

In line with the programmed activities of IPEP, the Coastal Development Authority, the implementation agency under the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives embarked on a four day tour in Western Region, one of the regions which form part of the Coastal development Zone to inspect and evaluate ongoing projects.

The project monitoring and evaluation tour took place in different constituencies in the Western region:

WASSA EAST CONSTITUENCY

The Deputy CEO in charge of the Western Region, Ms Mona Gertrude Effah and her team visited Wassa East constituency to inspect ongoing projects being funded from the $1 million per constituency allocation. The entourage was specifically at Ateiku, Subriso, and Tosen all in the Wassa East district.

Projects inspected were the construction of community-based solar powered water systems and Ten-Seater Institutional Toilet facilities under the Sanitation for all policy.

These project initiatives were based on the needs assessment by constituents as key stakeholders and benefactors. Communities in the district are further benefiting from ongoing construction of bridges and culverts which are all being funded from the $1 million allocation per constituency.

JOMORO CONSTITUENCY

These communities are Ahobre, Elubo, Annor Adjaye SHS – Ezinibo in the Jomoro Constituency benefited from a 10-Seater Institutional Toilet facility under the 'SANITATION FOR ALL' program.

Whilst Sowodadem, Takinta, Kengen communities are also set to benefit from Community based water systems under the 'WATER FOR ALL' program. These communities are entitled to a Community-Based Solar Powered Water Systems facility which has the capacity to supply water to over 2,400 people per day.

Meanwhile, Bonyere Township is set to benefit from a Community Center and more so, there is steady progress of the construction of an ultra modern football pitch at Half Assini. This project forms part of some constituency specific projects earmarked by the constituency for the year which also forms part of the $1 million allocation.

Notable key stakeholders like the Assemblymen, opinion leaders, market women, students, youth groups in Jomoro Constituency were elated with these developmental projects.
Mr Eric Akwossey Blah, Assemblyman of Ahobre expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the provision of the toilet facility as it would help reduce the open defecation.

JUABOSO CONSTITUENCY

The Deputy CEO, Ms Mona Gertrude Effah, and her team again inspected some communities in the newly created Western North region where the IT team generated the Ghana Post Address System on all the project sites. 

These project sites are located at Antobia, Adamase, Brekrom, Nkatieso communities, forming part of the 'WATER FOR ALL' component of the IPEP being funded from the $1 million per constituency allocation to all the 275 constituencies. These projects according to the contractor are about 75% completed; and are at different stages of completion.

The Kontihene of Brekrom, Opayin Agyakum Kwaku Adama and the entire community expressed joy over the provision of water to the community, pleading with the authority to provide a toilet facility and a class room block.

However, communities like Boinzan and Kofikrom are also seeing an ongoing project of a 10- Seater Institutional Toilet facility under the 'SANITATION FOR ALL' program.

SEFWI WIAWSO CONSTITUENCY

On their final four days of project monitoring and evaluation, Ms Mona Gertrude Effah visited Sefwi Wiawso constituency to inspect the construction of ongoing toilet facilities at Mpomam, Dwinase market and Asawinso communities.

She continued her inspection tour to Aboduam, Datano and Anyinabirem to inspect ongoing Water For All projects, a component of the IPEP with funding from the $1 million per constituency allocation to all the 275 constituencies. These projects are about 75% completed, according to the contractor.

These ongoing projects are geared towards government's objective of achieving its sustainable development goals as resolved by the UN General Assembly.
