"We Believe In Personality Cult" - Allotey Jacobs Asks NDC To Stop 'Personality Worship'

Social Commentator, Allotey Jacobs has lambasted the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the shooting incident that happened at the party office in Kumasi on Monday, February 18, 2019.

Allotey Jacobs condemned the incident and called on the party to build a united front not a "personality cult".

According to him, the party is revolving around personalities with their followers worshipping them and subscribing to anything in an act of loyalty.

Allotey Jacobs was commenting on the bloody encounter between some members of a vigilante group "Hawks" and a taskforce belonging to the NDC during a high-profile meeting involving both National and Regional executives of the party.

The NDC National Organizer, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo; General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and the Ashanti Regional executives were having a meeting to settle a misunderstanding within the party's Regional hierarchy when some members of the Hawks fired gun shots resulting in the death of one person and another seriously injured at the premises of the party office in Kumasi.

Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, Allotey Jacobs advised the party members and supporters to stop following personalities to cause harm to themselves.

He noted that the culture of "personality worship" doesn't augur well for the NDC.

“We believe in personality cult. We’re worshipping people in the party. We’re not looking or focusing on the party of building a very vibrant and a very strong party. But rather we look at personalities to join party and to be dedicated and loyal to the party. So, if the personality encounters a problem, then it means the followers also have a problem and not the party, and this is the end result of it. If only we will stop the personality worship, the personality cult and build a united front, it will extremely help the party,” he said.
