Dr. Omane Boamah On Why NDC Preferred Mahama

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah says the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has "credible and pragmatic programmes that we are going to put in place" to save Ghanaians from the hardship inflicted on them by the Akufo-Addo led government.

He bemoaned the 'abysmal performance' of the current administration and added that “Ghanaians must be happy and confident that President Mahama is coming back to right the wrongs and restore this nation in the right direction”.

Omane Boamah was reacting to the massive victory chalked by former President John Dramani Mahama during the primaries of the NDC over the weekend.

The former President garnered 95.24% after the election, leaving less than 5% for the rest of the six aspirants.

Speaking to this on Citi TV’s 'The Point of View', the former Communication Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration said "the party has demonstrated that there is unanimity when it comes to our support for Mahama. And in that unanimity, you saw the competition that everyone wanted to show that we love Mahama and the NDC and we want the party to win the 2020 elections.”

Why only Mahama

Omane Boamah has also spoken to reports that the NDC chose John Mahama because he is the only qualified candidate.

He said the fact that Mahama contested again does not mean they are short of competent people to lead the party.

According to him, "we have a plethora and the galaxy of stars who can stand as presidential candidates. Some of them stepped forward, Spio Garbrah and the others."

“This is a man (Mahama) who is loved by his people. Even as he was unsuccessful in 2016, people still continued to ask that he reconsiders coming back into active politics," he said.
