Ofosu-Ampofo's Leaked Tape Saga: Which Is Which, Fake Or Doctored?

Head of Communication team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has been challenged by his colleague Director of Communications for People’s National Convention (PNC) Emmanuel Wilson to come clear on the leaked tape.

He says Sammy Gyamfi should be bold enough to state whether the leaked tape is "fake" or "doctored" as he (Gyamfi) attempts to clarify the authenticity of the leaked tape of his National Chairman, Mr. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

“I have heard just after, communicators from the NDC and of course, first was my colleague Communication Director, Sammy Gyamfi coming to say that this is a fake tape; indeed, two descriptions were given, at one breath, it is fake and other side, it is doctored and I was wondering which one I should go with. Fake and doctored are really not the same, technically," he said on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji show on Saturday.

He expressed the view that brandishing the leaked tape as fake means the voice of the NDC National Chairman should not be taken into account; thus, saying it is doctored also means a portion of the leaked tape is true and a portion has been tampered with.

“But I kept hearing the NDC Communicator [Sammy Gyamfi] and subsequently communicators using the same two words, saying this is fake; the second moment, they say this is doctored and I was wondering what exactly they meant and which one they want us to take,” he wondered.

The PNC activist stressed that even though he was not part of that meeting and couldn’t have been since he is not a member of the NDC; his difficulty however, has to do with the genuineness of the leaked tape as it is immaterial whether doctored or fake.

He believed perhaps the NDC decided to choose the usual mantra of calling leaked tapes as being "doctored" and "fake" in order to get away with it as have been done in the past by the NPP’s Obiri Boahen, Yaw Osafo-Maafo, President Akufo-Addo and the CID boss and A-Plus tape as the best and quicker way to kill the public's interest.

“I said my difficulty is, is it really a doctored one as the NDC wants us to believe, genuinely? Or they were scared of the agenda and the interpretation that was given to the content by NPP pro-communicators and pro-media houses? And so they thought that because it has been branded as something black, we will not be in a capacity to come out with the true meaning of the content and so let’s go and hide and say that this is a doctored tape so that it goes off,” he asserted.
