Former NHIA Boss To Face GH 4million Charge Of Causing Financial Loss?

Less than a year after being relieved off his position as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr. Ras Boateng is likely to be haul before court to answer charges relating to willfully causing financial loss to the state. The former CEO, according to information gleaned by Peacefmonline.com, faces a GH 4million charge of wilfully causing financial loss to the state. The said amount, according to sources, was cashed at ECOBANK on December 12 2008 in the run-up to the general elections, and Mr. Ras Boateng is alleged to have not sought the approval of the board before the money was withdrawn from the accounts of the authority. Sources say the said anomalies are contained in an Internal Audit commissioned by current Chief Executive Sylvester Mensah. The Internal Audit report has about 21 findings under the theme: SUMMARY OF SIGNIFICANT FINDINGS. Though the report was said to have been presented a few months ago, the NHIA, peacefmonline is reliably informed, is hesitant in prosecuting the matter. Aspects of the report allege that the former CEO presided over a flawed accounting system which led to loss of huge sums of state revenue. A typical example is the finding that the cash officer at the authority could not account for an amount of GH 2, 792 being cash book balance for January 2008.
