Thumps Up to Short Commission, But . . . - John Jinapor

John Jinapor, a former Deputy Minister of Energy under the John Mahama administration has congratulated the Justice Emile Short Commission for a good work done.

The Short Commission was set up to look into the violence that occurred during the by-elections held in Ayawaso West Wuogon.

The Commission which was made up of three members: Justice Emile Short (Chairman), Professor Henrietta Mensah-Bonsu and Mr. Patrick K. Acheampong as members were given one month to submit its report to President Akufo-Addo.

Speaking to proceedings that took place at the Commission, he says work done so far has been impressive.

“I will give them thumbs up . . . so far what has gone on, fairly it’s not bad,” he said.

Proposed Recommendation

As far as recommendation is concerned, John Jinapor who is also the Member of Parliament for Yapei/Kusawgu in the Northern Region, hoped that the Commission will recommend for the disbandment of the operatives who were dressed in black and brown uniforms with some wearing masks.

According to him, they don’t have any place in our National Security.

"The brown and black people should be disbanded . . . they have no place in our National Security. Then if we want a SWAT group, they should be made up of the police . . . we don’t need this amorphous group,” he said during a panel discussion on Peace FM morning show 'Kokrokoo'.

The Commission should also recommend that our “security be strengthened and granted independence because the police administration is not firmly independent”.

Apart from that “they should make the report available for us to read to make an informed decision”.
