Parliament Losses 4 Former MP's Within One Month – Majority Leader Reflects

Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame constituency, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has expressed worry at the rate at which former MP's are dying.

Describing the former National Chairman of the NDC and former Member of Parliament for Biakoye Constituency, Dr. Kwabena Agyei as a good man, he noted that the trend is disturbing.

He says he has contributed immensely to the development of Ghana’s Parliament and that the likes of him has really made Ghana’s Parliament to be one of the respected Parliaments across the world.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, the Majority leader who recounted days of working with him in parliament said as a junior parliamentarian then, he learnt a lot from him.

He however noted that parliament has over the last months lost a great number of parliamentarians including former Member of Parliament for Efigya Sekyere, Henric Yeboah, Joe Donkor, Lee Ocran and now Dr. Kwabena Adjei.

"During their days in parliament, they challenged us to learn a lot as new parliamentarians who were taking up roles in parliament under the leadership of JH Mensah who was the minority leader," he said.

"With time we are losing these fine parliamentarians who have contributed immensely to the development of the country," he added.

A former National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Adjei, has passed.

He died Tuesday morning at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, formerly Ridge hospital.

The politician, who was the Chairman when the NDC won power in 2008, had been battling with a protracted sickness first reported in the media in August 2015.

He died three days after marking his 76th birthday on March 9, 2019.

Dr. Adjei graduated with a PhD in Research Methods and Statistics in Psychology from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, U.K in 1973.

He ventured into politics in 1978, getting elected as a Council Mmember of the Jasikan District Council in the Volta region.

The Psychology lecturer’s political decline began after 2014 after he lost his National Chairmanship post to Kofi Portuphy.

It ended his bid for a third tenure after first winning the position in 2005 while the party was in opposition. He was re-elected in 2009
