Disbanding Vigilante Groups: Prez Akufo-Addo’s Posture Too 'Chameleonic' - PNC Chairman

National Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah has described the posture of President Nana Akufo-Addo in the combat against vigilantism as “chameleonic”.

According to him, until Joy News' documentary came out, whenever Nana Akufo-Addo gets the opportunity to speak on vigilantism he behaves as if he is worried about it; “crying and doing everything to show that he abhors the existence of such groups, not knowing that at the presidency, is a group that is training as militia and have taken strategic positions at international and national conferences”.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Bernard Mornah said he recalls seeing a lot of De-Eye Group members at the launch of Dombo Foundation, but then he mistakenly took them to be students of law without knowing their identity until Manasseh Azure’s documentary.

“I saw a lot of them and I thought that they were students of law . . . I didn’t know these were a group of militia after being trained at the presidency . . . so when the President is shedding crocodile tears and letting everybody know that the happenings in Ghana is terrible, then suddenly it turned out that the President actually has knowledge of the existence of the group . . . it is disturbing,” he said.

The PNC leader asserted that this act is “leading to ‘weaponization’ of our democracy which we all know that a semblance of this was exhibited at Ayawaso West Wuogon, and so we have issued a statement that this nation deserves better, this nation deserves peace and President Akufo-Addo must ensure that there is peace”.

Reacting to the claim of government that the Osu Castle is now under Museum and Monuments Board and not an annex of the office of the President, Bernard Monah asked, “in the museum, we have ministries there, isn’t it? Which museum in the world do we have ministries? Which museum in the world do you take a Commission responsible for the creation of new regions to go and base? Which museum do you have a presidential commission on violence that occasioned at an election to sit in?”

He said the fact that it has written to hand over the Osu Castle to the Museum and Monuments Board does not mean it has actually turned the Castle into a museum.

“If you have given it out, is it the board of the museum that made the 4 ministers to use the place? Is it the museum and monument board that allow the presidential commission to use the place for their activities? Is it the board that deploy the police at Osu Castle that before anyone enters, they have to go through police checks? You see, when you are incompetent, even lying, it becomes a problem,” he pooh-poohed.

He wondered why someone who has fallen out with the President can access to the Presidency to the extent of using offices in the Castle for his personal use without any sanction.

“In any case if someone has fallen out with the President and the person has access to the Presidency to the extent that they have access to offices at the Castle and this issue has come out, the best our government that is determined to combat crime can do is to sack them from the place. The fact that they even entered the place illegally is a crime”, he argued.
