Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Boamah Otukonor has commended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for instructing the Attorney General (AG) to prepare legislation against vigilantism.

However, he believes “if we can hold one conference and get all these stakeholders on board and discuss this matter thoroughly and come up with lasting solutions which may form a strong foundation for legislative work, I think, that one would have been a stronger way and a smarter way to deal with this matter.”

Peter Otukonor was speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness news, Thursday.

Speaking to the same issue on the same platform, the National Communications Director of the NPP, Yaw Buabeng Asamoah says the President's action which is commendable will ginger the two political parties to do their part.

“I think the President should be commended for his decisiveness . . . he has the right to introduce legislation . . . I think that it is a very important step. The party should be advised and the party should take it on board that it better clean up internally because the big stick will be there. I think that it is useful to have a rule especially as this (vigilantism) has become a major thorn in our political flesh, the parties must own this process," he indicated.

The President HE Nana Akufo-Addo has in fulfillment to his promise to introduce new legislation to deal with political party vigilantism, ordered the Attorney-General to draft a bill “as soon as possible”.

This directive was contained in a reply to the second letter from the NDC's Chairman, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, over the party’s reservation to the approach in dealing with the menace of party vigilantism as suggested by the President.
