President of Liberia, George Weah, has extended his condolences and that of his country to Ghana over the death of over 60 persons in two separate road crashes that occurred last Friday.

He said Liberia stands with Ghana “in prayers” over the unfortunate incident.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, the footballer turned politician said it was his hope that Ghana will get over the grief and memories of the incident with renewed hope towards making the country a better place.

“To the Government and people of Ghana, we like to express our deepest condolences and profound sympathies to you for the tragedy that took the lives of Over 90 people yesterday in two separate accidents on the Kintampo Atebubu and Cape Coast roads. The Government and people of Liberia are with you in prayers. May God heal your wounds and help you to overcome this calamity. We have no doubt that you will come out of this with renewed hope and zest as you work towards building a better Ghana for all,” he said in the post.

George Weah’s post comes at a time when the president and the government of Ghana is being criticized by a section of the populace for the slow response towards the incident.

Several hours after the incident, there has not been an official communication from the government yet.

The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak has even had the cause to complain about the seeming indifference the government showed toward the incidents.

“To say that I am utterly disappointed by the government’s response to Friday’s tragic accidents is an understatement. The government’s response is nothing but shambolic. More than 70 of our compatriots have died in very tragic road accidents in just one day."

"No package of support for the victims, no declaration of a day of mourning, and unlike other disasters in the past, no visit to either the hospital or the mass burial today by any minister of state. In times of such tragic disasters, we expect leadership. What the President has demonstrated is no leadership, just vacuum,” he said.

But the new regional minister designate for Bono-East, Evans Opoku Bobbie has said that the government will foot the full medical bill of all victims of the accident who were injured and are currently receiving medical attention.
