Power Outages To End Sooner Than Expected - Deputy Minister

Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. William Owuraku Aidoo has disclosed that the power crisis which the country is facing is expected to end earlier than expected.

He has thus assured Ghanaians of a stable power supply once Engineers and Technical men on the ground are done with their work.

Speaking on Okay FM's 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he denied reports that the power crisis is as a result of a huge debt that has saddled the Ministry.

According to him they have enough crude to power all the plants that produces power, as they are even trying to move the Karpower Ship to Takoradi where they can rub it gas.

"The government is servicing all the Energy sector debt that the NDC government left behind so there is no way we are going to plunge this country into total darkness or revisit the era of dumsor," he said.

"We are pleading with Ghanaians to exercise restraint and bare with the government within this period. I have visited the sites and per my discussion with Engineers, the power crisis will be over sooner than expected.

"Our Engineers are working around the clock to fix what ever problem that needs to be fixed to end this power problem once and for all," he added.

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the government to admit that the days of the much-feared intermittent power outages popular known as ‘dumsor’ is back.

According to the NDC, the handlers of the Energy sector must publish a load-shedding timetable to enable citizens to plan appropriately.
