Parliament Approves US$100m Credit & Financing Agreement To Construct Accommodation Facilities For Military

Parliament has approved a Credit and Financing agreement between the government of Ghana and the Poly Changda Overseas Engineering Company Ltd of China for an amount of US$ 100 million to finance the construction of the Military Housing Project for the Ministry of Defence.

This follows a motion moved by the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Defence and Interior and MP for Manhyia North, Hon Collins Owusu Amankwa for the adoption of the Committee's report on the agreement.

Facilities to be constructed according to the Committee's report as part of the project within the agreement include (i) 160 two- bedroom half compound house (ii) 176 two- bedroom flats , (iii)1 two- storey building Military Academy Classroom block , (iv) 1 Military Academy Administration Office block with 48 offices and conference rooms (v) 1 Military Academy Hostel with 240 self-contained rooms (vi) 1 Military Academy Auditorium with seating capacity of 640 people (vii) 1 Platoon Commanders block containing 4 two- bedroom flats per floor and (7) A fence wall around the entire perimeter of the Ghana military academy at Teshie in Accra.

Seconding the motion for the approval of the agreement , Hon James Agalga MP for Builsa North and Minority Ranking Member on the Committee of Defence and Interior desribed the project as laudable.

According to him the provision in the agreement for 20% local content in the project will provide local contractors a huge opportunity.
