Police CID Denies NDC's Claim of Inviting Ofosu-Ampofo During Vigilantism Meeting

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has debunked reports that they disrupted a meeting between the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) with the National Peace Council by inviting its Chairman.

After the meeting which took place on Tuesday, the NDC condemned the police-CID for inviting their National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo to its headquarters.

According to reports, Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo after the call was advised not to go in the middle of the meeting; but do so afterward.

However, speaking in an interview on Wednesday’s edition of the ‘kokrokoo’ programme, Chief Supt. Appenteng Baffour, Deputy Director of Operations, CID and lead investigator in Ofosu-Ampofo's leaked tape saga debunked the allegation, describing it as shocking.

“It is never true we called Ofosu-Ampofo to come . . . we informed his lawyers that we needed him on Monday. So we were expecting them on Monday. I never called any of them; I never talked to anybody. So it’s never true that he was invited in the middle of the meeting. Moreover, I didn’t know about the meeting until his lawyers told me . . . so I accepted for them to come afterward,” he said.

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo and his lawyers, therefore, reported to the CID headquarters after the meeting.
