Fulfil Campaign Promise; Nkawkaw To Abirem Roads Have Become Death Trap - Akoasi Assemblyman

Assemblyman of Ahenbronum electoral area, Akoasi in the Abirem Constituency in the Eastern Region, George Krobea Asante is passionately reminding President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to fulfil his campaign promise to the people Abirem Constituency, especially those in Akoasi.

According to him, President Akufo-Addo during the 2016 campaign promised to get the road from Nkawkaw to Abirem as well as Akoasi town roads fixed.

In a letter written to President Akufo-Addo, the Assemblyman of Ahenbronum electoral area said as the President keeps delivering on his promises to Ghanaians, he should not forget about his promise to the people of Abirem to make another testimony of it.

Acknowledging the good work of Akufo-Addo government for mother Ghana, Hon. George Krobea Asante reminded the President of the deplorable nature of the road from Nkawkaw to Abirem.

“In fact that stretch of road now serves as death trap with several manholes and the danger it poses to the constituents can no longer be overlooked. The question we keep asking ourselves is “why us”? Since 1992 this constituency has been voting consistently and massively for the NPP without corresponding impacts in terms of development,” he bemoaned.

He again demanded to know why the Nkawkaw to Abirem road which has been captured in two different budgets was not considered in the first phase of the 'Almighty' Sinohydro Deal.

“Is it because we are seen to be cool and not demonstrating like the other places is doing? Or because the NPP, my party and our government believes no matter how bad Abirem is treated they will still vote for us in election 2020”? he quizzed.

He stressed that the constituency suffered a lot in terms of infrastructural developments under erstwhile John Mahama’s regime as the NDC has the perception that Abirem is for NPP and no matter what the NDC will do they will still be voting for the NPP.

April 12, 2019.

H.E. NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFFO – ADDO

THE PRESIDENT, REPUBLIC OF GHANA

JUBILEE HOUSE

ACCRA

Dear President,

REPORT ON THE DEPLORABLE STATE OF NKAWKAW TO ABIREM STRETCH OF ROAD AS WELL AS AKOASI TOWN ROADS

The good people of Abirem Constituency especially those in Akoasi have the privilege to extend our greetings to you and wishes to remind you of your promise to get the road from Nkawkaw to Abirem as well as Akoasi town roads fixed during your campaign visit prior to elections 2016.

We trust you have not forgotten about it and as you keep delivering on your promises to Ghanaians, ours will also be given a testimony.

Your Excellency let me commence by commending you for the good work your government is doing for mother Ghana whiles I also remind you of the deplorable nature of the road from Nkawkaw to Abirem.

In fact that stretch of road now serves as death trap with several manholes and the danger it poses to the constituents can no longer be overlooked. The question we keep asking ourselves is “why us”?

As an adage goes “to whom much is given, much is expected” But the story of Abirem constituency looks different and cannot be fathomed.

Since 1992 this constituency has been voting consistently and massively for the NPP without corresponding impacts in terms of development.

This trend is bad and cannot be continued.

Mr. President, the people of Abirem constituency wants to know why the Nkawkaw to Abirem road which has been captured in two different budgets was not considered in the first phase of the Almighty Sinohydro Deal. Is it because we are seen to be cool and not demonstrating like the other places is doing? Or because the NPP, my party and our government believes no matter how bad Abirem is treated they will still vote for us in election 2020.

As a citizen and a staunch member of the NPP, I cannot pretend to be unaware of the public bashings and the negative remarks from the residents against your government for your inability to fix the road.

Gradually the people are running out of patience because our people are dying on the road, businesses are collapsing as a result of the poor nature of the road, armed robbery activities has become rampant due to the poor nature of the road, the cost of living has tripled, our health are deteriorating because the dust is just unbearable, pregnant women are more vulnerable and continue to suffer miscarriages upon referral to Nkawkaw or Koforidua and in worse cases some of them even loses their lives.
