The dismissed Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Professor Mawutor Avoke is calling for his immediate reinstatement as well as that of other dismissed staff of the University.

Prof. Avoke stated that failure to reinstate him to office will be to proceed to court.

“We will go back to court in May if no effort at reconciliation has been initiated.”

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) report exonerated him from all allegations leveled against him after thorough investigations.

“I am here on the strength of the clearance from EOCO and the fact that we have done nothing wrong and that my reputation has been restored.”

Describing the accusations leveled against him as baseless, he accused Prof. Afful-Broni of conspiring with his allies to rid him of his office through the spread of false claims.

The former Vice-Chancellor and four other officials were dismissed following an emergency meeting, prompting a probe.

The anti-graft agency concluded in its probe and found among other things that, “Prof Mawutor Avoke did not abuse his office nor breach procurement laws.

The report said the allegations that the mode of selection of one Paa Badu Construction Limited and C-Deck limited for the award of various contracts by the University did not follow procurement rules were untrue since procurement rules were followed."

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, Tuesday, the dismissed vice chancellor called on the Governing Council of the University of Education Winneba, Ministry of Education and government to intervene for justice to be served.

Following the suspension of Prof Avoke, some staff of the UEW were dismissed. The vice chancellor has called such actions as an injustice, urging for those staff be brought back to work as the university is not a place to terrorize academics.

“The injustice in dismissing staff who have served the university for the past several years on trapped on charges evident in the so-called Fact Finding Report is probably the greatest injustice in the history of the higher education anywhere in a civilized world.”
