‘Exonerated’ Anas Boy Murder Suspect Released

Abdul Rashid Maizango, who was ‘wrongly’ arrested by the police as a suspect in the gruesome murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, was finally released yesterday.

He had been held for a little over a week by law enforcement agents after his arrest at the West Hills Mall area, near Weija, Accra, for his alleged involvement in the murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale, a member of Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye Private Investigation Team.

The family members had been pained that their son suffered for a crime he never committed.

Just when they thought he was going to be released last Friday, their expectations were dashed, as the police claimed they were waiting for a family member of the murdered person to identify him or otherwise before they could release him.

Under the circumstances, he had to remain in the Nima Police Station cells.

His arrest was effected by the Greater Accra Regional Police Command from where he was taken to the CID headquarters.

His arrest and subsequent realization that a wrong person had been picked up prompted queries from the Zongo community which found the blunder unacceptable.

Those who thought along these lines recalled how some young men were mistaken for armed robbers by the police and shot dead in cold blood.

Lawyer Seidu Nasigri, counsel for the now released suspect, earlier told DAILY GUIDE that his client would be released.

He called yesterday to announce the release from police custody of Abdul Rashid Maizango.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that a media report that a suspect in the case was released by a patrol team after his arrest earlier at Kotobabi in Accra is still haunting the police, hence their insistence in satisfying themselves that all was well before taking the final decision to release the suspect but, of course, to the detriment of the suspect.
