Premix Committee Saves Ghana Ghc 36million

The National Premix Fuel Committee led by Mr. Nii Lante Bannerman has saved Ghana a whooping GhC 36 million following the successful implementation of measures to stomp out activities of premix diversion within the sector.

This means 18,000,000 ltrs of Premix Fuel which could have hitherto been diverted across our borders or into private hands.

This huge success has brought an end to an age long practice of widespread diversion that has plagued the supply of premix fuel since its inception in 2009 and denied hardworking fishermen access to the product.
By the current checks instituted and implemented by the Premix Secretariat and its allied stakeholders, it has now become almost impossible to divert premix fuel in Ghana.

Closer monitoring through the use of newly installed tracking software at the Premix Secretariat to monitor trucks has so far proved effective in averting diversions.

Other interventions also included improved collaboration efforts with the National Petroleum Authority and the restructuring of Landing Beach Committees in all inland regions towards ensuring efficient distribution of Premix Fuel.

Research activities of the Premix Secretariat has revealed the exact number of trucks of Premix Fuel needed per week and the corresponding level of fishing and transportation activities in a particular District or Municipality, thus preventing incidences of under-supply which affects productivity and over-supply, which breeds the tendencies for diversion.

Incidences of shortages are also non-existent today following the witnessing of improved and consistent supply of Premix Fuel based on actual demand and with the help of the various Premix Fuel Regional coordinating councils.

It must be noted that the Akufo-Addo government, towards solving the diversion menace, instituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee comprising the Ministries of Energy, Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Finance, the National Petroleum Authority and the National Premix Fuel Committee (NPFC) to strategize measures to mitigate the diversion of premix fuel.
