Ofosu-Ampofo’s Lawyers Meet CID

Lawyers of the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are storming the headquarters of the Ghana Police Service to meet the head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo was invited by the CID after it said his name came up in investigations into the recent cases of kidnappings and fire outbreaks on state institutions.

Speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Thursday, a member of the legal team of the NDC, Abraham Amaliba, said the lawyers will be there at 1:00pm. But they are not enthused about the invitation given to their client. “We see it as a form of harassment of our chairman,” he poured out to presenter Paa Kwesi Asare.

He said already the chairman is under investigations for a leaked tape and the latest invitation is “becoming too much of a distraction”. To him, a mere mention of the name of the opposition party’s chairman should not trigger such an action from the CID. “Have they checked on the veracity of that information?” he questioned the leads obtained by the CID.

He failed to confirm whether their client will be present at the police headquarters or not.
Meanwhile, some supporters of the NDC are massing up at the police headquarters to offer solidarity to the party’s national chairman. Clad in party colours, the sympathisers have vowed to resist any attempt to frustrate the party, in general.

The elders of the party are also scheduled to later address journalists on the latest move by the police.
