TVET Cannot Be Ignored In The Development Of Ghana's Economy - SAADGS Of Wa Poly

The School of Applied Art Design and General Studies (SAADGS) of Wa Polytechnic has held its second School Day' Celebration under the theme "TVET and National Industrialisation Development of Ghana’s Economy: The Role of the Artist".

The event was attended by three Second Cycle Schools in the Wa Municipality namely: Wa Senior High, Wa Technical Institue, and Wa Senior High Technical as well as lecturers, management of Wa Poly and other stakeholders.

The Guest speaker for the occasion was the Acting Vice-Rector of the Institution, Iddrisu N. Mohammed who called on the students to embrace TVET programme as the way to go in growing the economy of Ghana.

The Dean of the SAADGS, Dr Nicholas Addo Tetteh also speaking at the ‘school day’ celebration, which was held on Thursday 2nd May, 2019 said "the key purpose of this school day is to establish the point that the role of the artist in developing the industrialisation growth of Ghana’s economy cannot be ignored".

He indicated that the 'school day' programme is also to offer students, artisans, etc an opportunity to interact with lecturers and teachers as well as resource persons on how to advance Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

"It is also worth noting that being the youngest school, we need a lot of attention in the area of equipment, tools and materials as well as both international and local relations with industries. We, therefore, call on stakeholders to come to our aid financially as well as bring more enlightenment to make SAADGS a pillar or a hub of both art and language industry; where people within and outside the country can be proud of" he added.

The event was climaxed by an exhibition show where products produced by the students of SAADGS were displayed.

The SAADGS was established in 2012 with a composition of three departments: namely Department of General and Liberal Studies, Industrial Art Department and Fashion Design and Modelling Department. The major focus of the school is technical and vocational education training.
