Man, 20, Jailed 20 Years For Robbery

The Nsuta Circuit Court presided over by Ms. Lydia Osei Marfo, has sentenced a 20-year-old mechanic to 20 years imprisonment for robbery at Ejura, in the Ejura-Sekyedumasi District of the Ashanti Region.

Abdul Rauf Kasim pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery and was convicted on his own plea.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Kyei Sarpong, told the Court that on May 11, 2019, at about 2100 hours, the convict armed with a jackknife and a cutlass, robbed two persons at Ejura.

He said the first victim, who was a student of the Ejuraman Anglican Senior High school, was robbed of his Itel P32 mobile phone valued at GHC 380.00, at the Ejura community centre.

The Prosecution said the second victim was robbed on that same day at 2300 hours, when the convict attacked and robbed the victim of his Techno Fortune 17 mobile phone, also valued at GHc 120.00, the Court heard.

He said the charger to the phone and a cash of GHc 80.00 was also stolen by the convict and this took place around a public park at Ejura.

ASP Sarpong, said the convict who had been arrested and placed in police custody in connection with a different case, was identified by the victims who had gone to the Ejura police station to lodge a complaint.

He said the police during a search retrieved the Jackknife, Tecno Fortune mobile phone and amount of GHC 30.00, from the convict.

The prosecution said the convict admitted committing the offences in his cautioned statement and was charged accordingly.
