The two dancehall stars were at the centre of a storm Saturday night during the VGMAs, and since then they’ve been arrested and already arraigned before court, an example of the justice system in Ghana working just as fast and as thorough as it should.
However, it doesn’t always work that fast, especially when powerful politicians are involved in breaking the law. Corruption is exposed in numerous state entities every single day but no one is ever prosecuted for it and the message seems to be that the politicians are above the law and can do whatever they want.
Van Vicker, commenting on the Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale issue, said whilst he understands that what they did is bad and therefore they deserve the punishment they’re receiving, everyone must be treated equally before the law and not only entertainers receiving swift justice whilst politicians go scot free.
According to him, the system must treat everyone when they break the law the same so that the country can truly progress.
Politicians do indeed get away with a lot of ‘crap’ in this country, but it’s rarely just for them. It’s not clear that Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale would face any real consequences for their actions aside from the minor inconvenience of a few court dates.
Those who suffer from the justice system are ordinary people who have no power and receive huge sentences for minor crimes whilst the rich and famous go scot-free no matter what they do.
