Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini has reiterated his doubt in Martin Amidu’s capability to discharge his duties fairly.

According to him, even though the Special Prosecutor is qualified for the work he has been given, “it seems there is some personal vendetta he is pursuing”.

The Member of Parliament for Tamale North who was speaking on TV3, Saturday said he feels vindicated because when Martin Amidu had the chance to take a case to court, the first was that of Mahama Ayariga.

“I didn’t have confidence in Martin Amidu to make any difference in the fight against corruption . . . because I thought he was not coming into office with the right mindset. I thought he was qualified but I didn’t think he was going to office with the right mindset looking at the articles he had written (in the past) . . . it seems there is some personal vendetta Martin Amidu is pursuing . . . given the chance to prove yourself, the first case you take to court actually happened in 2017 . . . I feel very vindicated by what is happening in the Special Prosecutor’s office,” he indicated.

According to him, “I was not convinced that this office is going to do anything significant . . . my initial thought was; do we need another bureaucratic office to fight corruption when we already have a justice system; the AG office, CHRAJ, EOCO . . . we could give EOCO more powers if they are lacking. Then the commentary that followed . . . convinced me that the motive behind the setting up of this office was clearly not national in character."

He said there was no need to create the impression that was created; that this office was to target a certain kind of people.

"It is clear that maybe it may not have been the intention of the President, but clearly, it was as if this office was to hunt some people especially of the previous administration who were perceived to have done some corrupt acts to be jailed, and that is why you have the Special Prosecutor under pressure today. You hear NPP and government sympathizers complaining that the office is not leaving up to expectation,” he added.
