Former minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, has declared her intention to contest the Adentan parliamentary seat for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 general elections.

In a Facebook post, Oye Lithur stated that her decision follows consultations and self reflection over the matter. "Following consultations with my Mentors, Advisors, Party Executives, Constituents of Adentan and after a lot of self reflection, I have taken a resolute decision to offer myself as a willing and able candidate for the Adentan Parliamentary Seat on the ticket of the NDC," her post on Tuesday, May 28, partly read.

To forward her intention, Oye Lithur has already paid a courtesy call on former president John Mahama who will lead the NDC in the elections to inform him of her decision. According to Oye Lithur, Mahama welcomed her decision and acknowledged the need to elect strong, opinionated candidates who would appeal to the general electorate during the 2020 elections." “The general elections would involve the entire voting public and not just the NDC delegates, in this regard we as a party need to be strategic in our selection of parliamentary candidates. We must also consider the strength, the character and track record of the aspirants to determine if they can emerge victorious in the general elections,” the former was quoted to have said.

If successful in the NDC primaries, Oye Lithur will likely be contesting Yaw Buabeng Asamoah who is the current member of parliament on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
