Kufuor, Nana Addo Console Rawlingses

Former president Kufuor and former flag-bearer of the NPP Nana Akufo-Addo have issued consolation messages to former president Rawlings and his family over the fire that gutted his residence. Mr Kufuor said in a statement, "I have learnt of the startling news of the fire outbreak at the residence of former President Jerry John Rawlings which, l understand, caused extensive damage to the property. The nation should feel relieved that he and his family escaped unhurt. "This is one fire outbreak too many, coming on the heels of the recent ones at the Tema Oil Refinery, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the offices of the Ghana Education Service at Tudu, the Makola and Asafo markets in Accra and Kumasi respectively. "I hope the security agencies will take immediate steps to get to the bottom of what happened last night and put in appropriate measures to forestall its recurrence anywhere else," the statement concluded. Nana Akufo-Addo on his part said "My wife, Rebecca, our children and I join many other Ghanaians to extend to you, the former First Lady and your children our sincere sympathies over the fire that devastated your home and belongings in the early hours of today, February 14, 2010. We are however grateful to the Almighty that there were no serious injuries to persons. "Our prayer is that the Good Lord will continue to protect you and your family," he added.
