3 Yrs In Office And You're Still Blaming Mahama For Your Failures? - Sammy Gyamfi To Prez Akufo-Addo

National Communication Officer for the largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi is asking President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to prepare his handing over notes for his failure to find a lasting solution to the flooding situation in Accra for almost 3 years in office.

According to him, if the Akufo-Addo government will continue to blame its failure on former President John Dramani Mahama even for 3 years in power, then it means that President Akufo-Addo and his NPP government are not ready to work for Ghana.

“Like just John Dramani Mahama said last week, he said ‘it is normal for a new government to blame its predecessor in the first years on his failure’; we will understand the government if they blame their failure on Mahama even in the 2nd year of Akufo-Addo administration but if in your third year you still blame Mahama for your failure, then it means you know that you cannot do the work entrusted to you so you must start preparing your handing over notes”, he chided.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, Sammy Gyamfi based his critics of Akufo-Addo government on the fact that officials of Akufo-Addo government are blaming the recent Kwame Nkrumah Circle floods on the interchange constructed by former President John Dramani Mahama; claiming the interchange was poorly constructed, leading to the level of flooding which was witnessed in Accra.

But the NDC National Communication Officer intimated that “the problem we are witnessing at Circle right now is not because of the interchange. When the rain passes through the drain at circle, where does it go to? The rain goes to Odaw river and from there it goes to the Korle lagoon and then finally ends at the sea”.

He stressed that the cause of recent flooding at Circle has nothing to do with the type of drainage system constructed; thus, the place will still be flooded if the Odaw river is not desilted as it should have been done by the Akufo-Addo government.

“…it doesn’t matter the drain constructed at circle; you can construct the best drain at circle but if the Odaw river is not desilted, the downpour will not find space at the Odaw and so still there will be flooding. It doesn’t matter what you do to the drain, if the rains do not find space at Odaw because it is desilted, even 30-minutes rainfall will flood circle”, he argued.

He insisted that the same Nkrumah Circle Interchange under the NDC never witnessed such level of flood; thus, there is no record of such unprecedented flood which traveled as far as to the Providence Insurance under Mahama-led NDC government than was seen recently at Circle.

“That is why under NDC the interchange was there but we didn’t witness this level of flooding at circle. When last did you see that just 30-minutes downpour at circle, there was a flooding which traveled as far as to the Providence Insurance under NDC? This is because in 2015-2016, we did major dredging work at the Odaw river and Korle Lagoon and so the downpour at circle find spaces at the Odaw and Korle”, he stated.
