Mahama Kept $25 Million Of Kumasi Airport Project To Himself – Chairman Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party has alleged that former President Mahama kept a whooping amount of $25 million, meant for the rehabilitation of the Kumasi Airport to himself without officially declaring to the state.

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako in an address to NPP members at Konongo, stated that the former administration led by Mr. John Mahama was to spend a total amount of US$29,093,097.90 on the rehabilitation of the Kumasi Airport but ended up undertaking the project with only $4,0000,000.

According to the NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, “when Mahama was president, he told us he was going to use $29 million to construct the Kumasi airport, but after the project was well examined by experts, they disputed that figure and insisted that he used only $4 million and kept $25 million to himself.”

He continued that “John ‘dumsor’ Mahama stole our monies and left us with bones. Mahama has collapsed our economy and Nana Akufo-Addo is rebuilding it.

John ‘dumsor’ Mahama wanted us to believe it will be difficult for any President after him to rebuild Ghana’s economy, but within two and half years, we have seen the God sent Nana Akufo-Addo bring out good policies like free education, planting for food and jobs and NabCo.”

Chairman Wontumi added that “we have seen the restoration of the teachers and nurses training allowances and the use of $1 million dollars in each district.

The construction of roads in Ashanti region is taking shape. In Ashanti region, John ‘dumsor’ Mahama used to make us sleep in darkness but today, under Nana Akufo-Addo, our light is constantly on. ”

Under the erstwhile NDC government, a total of US$29,093,097.90 was spent on the rehabilitation of the Kumasi Airport. According to the former Minister for Transport, Mrs Dzifa Attivor, the rehabilitation works affected the existing Airfield Pavements as well as provision and installation of Aeronautical Ground Lighting System.

In an address to Parliament, she indicated that the scope of works for the two components included patch repair works, correction of undulating surface, provision and placing of Asphalt Reinforcement Grid (ARG) on regulating course, provision and placing of 70mm thick Marshall asphalt on top of the ARG, pavement marking as well as earthworks to the runway strip to ensure compliance with ICAO and GCAA requirements.
