Temporary Accommodation For Rawlingses, Provide For Kufuor Too - Ursula

The Vice President of FIDA International, Ms Ursula Owusu, says while the government arranges a temporary accommodation facility for the Rawlingses, that of ex-President John Kufuor should also be considered. She said the office of an ex-president should be treated with respect in spite of the person occupying such a position, adding that President John Mills would eventually become an ex-president in time and would expect that he is accorded the needed respect. Ex-President Kufuor has not been awarded his ex-gratia since he left office. An office he renovated while in office for his personal use as an office after his tenure was taken away from him when President Mills assumed office early 2009. He has been living at his own residence from where he also works. After ex-President Rawlings Ridge residence was severely gutted by fire on Sunday, the government has indicated that a temporary accommodation would be provided him. In view of this, Ms Owusu who was peaking on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana programme Monday, noted that if the Rawlingses could be provided for by the state, then the former president should also be given his due. Ms Ursula Owusu said she thought "they are really treating ex-president Kufuor in a shoddy manner and that nobody should create the impression that some people are more equal than others. However, she expressed her sympathies towards the Rawlingses upon losing their house, noting that this is a traumatic experience by any account and you would not wish it on your worst enemy.
