The Scholarships Secretariat of Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with St George University School of Medicine in Grenada, a Caribbean country.

The Registrar of the Secretariat, Mr Kingsley Agyemang, signed for his outfit while the Executive Director of International Growth and Strategy, Mr Christopher Sauer signed on behalf of the university.

With this MoU, selected students will get the opportunity to study medicine at the university. St George is giving a partial scholarship of 50% while the government of Ghana is contributing to 50%.

Speaking in an interview after the program, Mr Agyemang assured the university that the selected students who passed through rigorous processes before being selected will do exploits and not joke with the opportunity given them; citing other students who are excelling in other scholarship schemes.

He further indicated that "they (St George University) has a lot of international affiliation; UK, US, Canada; over 400 schools affiliated to St. George University and that by the time they (students) finish, they would be enlightened across all the countries…as the President (Akufo-Addo) has once stated, we want Ghana to be a medical hub in the West African zone and if we are able to do this, there will be no need to travel to India or other countries for medical treatment

Present at the signing were the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare, the Board Chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Okoe Boye and officials from the Flagstaff house, as well as other representatives from St George University.
