Kweku Baako Backs Nigeria High Commissioner To Ghana

"I am not sure the Nigerian High Commissioner's statement amounts to provocation . . . maybe I am missing something," Kweku Baako, the Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper said.

The Nigerian Hiigh Commissioner, Ambassador Olufemi Michael Abikoye in a statement issued in Accra yesterday, expressed worry over what it called the general criminalization of Nigerians in Ghana due to actions of "an insignificant few” Nigerians.

“The Ghanaian Press, both print and electronic as well as social media seems to have enjoyed a field day in demonizing Nigeria which for all intent and purposes, is seen as a fraternal brother to Ghana. The ongoing media trial of criminals which was now being turned into a media trial of Nigeria as a country, calls for moderation on the part of media practitioners in Ghana,” the statement added.

Some including security analyst, Adam Bonaa feels the statement is 'undiplomatic'.

However, Kweku Baako disagrees.

In a discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Kweku Baako claims "every High Commissioner and Ambassador in the position of the Nigerian High Commissioner will issue such statements when their people are facing difficulties . . . if he didn't seek to indemnify or seek for immunity for his citizens in the Ghanaian jurisdiction, then I find it difficult to contest and attack him."
