Tried And True Friends Assist Accra Psychiatric Hospital

A group known as Tried and True (T&T) made donations worth thousands of cedis to patients on the children’s ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, Saturday.

The T&T Group, a social media-based organization, made the donation as part of its first anniversary celebrations.

With over 45,000 active members on Facebook, the group has set help for the needy and vulnerable in society as its main objective.

The items presented included clothes, food, drinks, toiletries, detergent, buckets and medicines.

Presenting the gifts to the nurse in charge of the children’s ward, the moderator of Tried and True Group, Anita Esenam Sosu, said the group's main aim is to help disadvantaged Ghanaians.

She said T&T, made up of people from different backgrounds, believes it can contribute to social development by giving help to those who are less able, in order to make them feel part of society.

“Today we have come to the Psychiatric Hospital, specifically the children’s ward, to show love to these young ones who through no fault of theirs have found themselves here. We believe with these items and the love shown today, they will find joy in their hearts,” Ms Sosu said.

She explained that the donations were from personal contributions the members make towards meeting the requirements of people with special needs.

Receiving the items on behalf of the children, Makafui Agbeko, the nurse in charge of the children’s ward, said most of the children were brought there by good Samaritans after being abandoned by their parents.

Others were brought to the hospital by their mothers, who believed they could not look after them because of their personal circumstances, she said.

She said that with love and compassion, the hospital administrators, together with medical staff at the hospital, have made space and a home for the children, who would otherwise have been left to roam the streets.

Ms Agbeko expressed gratitude to the T&T Group for the love shown the little ones, not just with the donations but by spending the day with the children.

“Visits such as this one are also a healing process to these little ones. They find joy when the society visits and share time with them,” she said.

Other beneficiaries of T&T Group’s charitable donations are the inmates of Nsawam Prison, as well as over 20 women on the group’s social media platform who are widows.

Last week, during one of their visits, the group reunited a missing girl with her family when one of the T&T members posted pictures of the trip on his WhatsApp status.

According to reports, someone who knew the missing girl saw her in one of the pictures posted by Daniel Awazi and alerted the girl’s family, who rushed to the orphanage to find their daughter.
