Rebecca Akufo-Addo, Merck Foundation Launch 'Kofi's Story'

Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old he will not depart from it" so the Holy Scriptures say in Proverbs 22:6.

This is exactly what Merck More Than A Woman Foundation in collaboration with the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo wants to achieve with the book 'Kofi's Story'.

Kofi Story which was launched on Tuesday at the Alisa Hotel seeks to imbibe into the young ones the value of respect for every woman; young or old. With this when they grow up, they will learn to respect women, whether they have children or not.

The book was also created to empower and encourage women who are finding it difficult to give birth; for them to know they are more than mothers and for the fathers to know they are more than fathers.

The First lady speaking at the event added that the book seeks to encourage couples looking for the fruit of the womb to stick together no matter what.

"This story is part of the 'Merck More Than A Mother' campaign which is very close to my heart. I hope you will understand the message behind it. I believe we must prepare our children for tomorrow with the right family values of love and respect. Apart from that, it speaks against stigmatization" she added.

The CEO of Merck foundation, Dr. Rasha Kelej on her part indicated that "it is important for parents and caregivers to start teaching respect and nurturing empathy from a very young age. we should teach boys these qualities at their schools and through media. I believe both boys and girls need the same kind of guidance.

They both took turns to read portions of the book.

It's about time everybody; whether in urban or rural areas to know that having a child takes a woman and a man; not only a woman.
