Create Employment Avenues For National Service Personnel - CEO

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Team ABC Global, Mr Lord Lawson has called on the government to as a matter of urgency introduce entrepreneurship programmes in basic and tertiary institutions to help curb the rate of unemployment among the youth in Ghana.

"It is imperative for the government to introduce entrepreneurship training programmes in schools to equip students with the requisite skills after school" he added.

Mr Lawson was speaking during an entrepreneurs free skills training programme for more than 30 national service personnel in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis.

The programme, organized by National Service Personnel Association (NSPA), in partnership with Iraisers Ghana, took the personnel through Business Presentation, Yoghurt production, Powdered Soap Production, Shower Gel Production and Bleach Production, all geared towards providing them with skills they could use after their service.

Mr Lawson said unemployment had become common among post national service personnel, adding that, more than 50 per cent of national service personnel do not get jobs after their service, increasing the number of unemployed youth in the country.

In an interview with some of the NSP members after the programmers, they expressed their satisfactions with the programme and suggested that more of such be held for them.

"We need more entrepreneurship training so that we will not be dependent on government after our service to the nation", they added.

They thanked the organizers for the programme and pledged to make the best out of it and start their own businesses rather than remaining unemployed after their Service.
