The Creation Of Western North Region Is “Meaningless” Until You Appoint Natives Into Gov’t - Nana Addo Told

The President of Sefwi Chirano Traditional Council, Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III has accused govenment of neglecting the Western Region and its youth over the years - something he described as worrying.

According to him, "getting admission to good schools, getting medical care, getting electricity, getting portable water is about whom you know in the ruling government.”

Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III was speaking during the visit of the Former President John Dramani Mahama to the Traditional Council on July 17, 2019.

He noted that the Nana Addo-led government has failed to give the region a sector minister, a deputy minister or even a Chief Executive Officer despite its largest number of ministerial portfolios.

He said they were surprised to note that the only Chief Executive from the region, Alfred Obeng Boateng had his appointment as the CEO of BOST terminated in a manner that puts the entire community into a state of mourning.

“All the people who were cleared through investigations under the ruling government are all at post but for our son though he was equally cleared by the BNI and National Security through similar investigations, he alone is still not reassigned,” he lamented.

According to him, it seemed that they were not wrong as people to question the basis of the injustice and unfair treatment being bestowed on them, stressing that “is it because the ruling government considers Sefwi as a minority group?”

Okogyeman Kwaku Gyamprah III also mentioned that the infrastructure provided during the previous regime under John Mahama was excellently accepted and commended John Mahama for that feat.

According to him The Chirano Secondary School that was built, the first class asphalt road constructed from Sefwi Asanwinso to Diaso among others are laudable achievements the NDC government under John Mahama left for the people.

Meanwhile, he noted that although the region is endowed with different resources, its citizens have no recognition in the national affairs leaving them in bizarre circumstances, adding that they only matter when it comes to voting.

He indicated that the people of the region have learnt a lot from the treatment being meted out to them by government and will equally advise themselves in the 2020 elections.
